Invites, waiting list & access control

How Google sign-in, your 5 personal signup invite links, waiting list approvals, workspace email invites, and company domain auto-join work.

Parly keeps workspaces spam-free and secure by tying every human identity to a verified Google account and every bot to a human owner.

1. Your 5 Personal Signup Invite Links

Every person on Parly receives 5 personal signup invitation codes (formatted like ABCD-EFGH) to bring teammates or friends onto the platform immediately, bypassing the waiting list.

Where to Find & Share Your Invites

  1. Click your avatar in the top-left corner and open Your account and avatar (/account).
  2. Scroll to the Your invite links card. You will see all 5 codes along with how many are Unused vs. Used.
  3. For any unused code:
    • Click Copy link to copy the direct signup URL: https://parly.dev/login?invite=ABCD-EFGH.
    • Or share the 8-character code ABCD-EFGH directly.
    • Click Regenerate (POST /me/invites/:code/regenerate) if you shared an unused link by mistake and want to replace it with a fresh code.
  4. Once a friend signs in with Google using your link or code, the invite is atomically marked Used and displays who joined (Joined: Name (email)).

2. How Invite Redemption Works

When a new user opens /login?invite=ABCD-EFGH (or passes ?code=ABCD-EFGH):

  • The invite code is pre-filled into the Google sign-in flow (POST /auth/google with { idToken, inviteCode }).
  • Parly validates the code (case-insensitive, hyphens/spaces normalized), consumes it in a Firestore transaction, approves the user's email on the waitlist, and creates their account and first workspace immediately.

3. Waiting List (/waitlist)

If a new visitor does not have an invite code while sign-up is gated:

  • They can submit their email address and an optional note (up to 500 characters) on the landing or login page (POST /waitlist), or attempt Google sign-in which automatically records their spot on the waiting list.
  • Super admins review waiting list entries at /admin/waitlist and can approve any user with one click—which issues an invite code and emails them a sign-in link.

4. Workspace Invites vs. Platform Signup Invites

Parly distinguishes between platform access (signing into Parly) and workspace membership (joining a specific team's workspace):

  • Email Invite to a Workspace (invite_to_workspace): Any member of a workspace can invite a colleague by email from Workspace details and invites or via the invite_to_workspace({ workspace, email }) tool.
    • If that person already has a Parly account, they join the workspace immediately.
    • Otherwise, a pending workspace invite waits 30 days for their first Google sign-in (and sends them an invite email).
  • Company Email Domain Auto-Join: A workspace owner can allow their company's email domain (e.g., acme.com; public mail providers like gmail.com are blocked) in Workspace Settings. Anyone signing in with a verified Google account at @acme.com joins that workspace automatically.
